Begumgonj Textile Engineering College, Noakhali

Begumgonj Textile Engineering College, Noakhali  is an engineering educational institute in Bangladesh and operates under the University of Chittagong.It plays important role in Textile Education in Bangladesh.Its Educational Constitution is under the University of Chittagong, Science Faculty.
History: During the British colonial rule from 1911 to 1929, 33 peripatetic weaving schools were established in East Bengal to meet the requirements for a textile technician by offering an artisan-level six-month course. Begumgonj Textile Engineering College, Noakhali is one of them; it was established in 1918. In 1968 it was upgraded to District Weaving School offering a one-year course and in 1981 District Textile Institute offering a two-year certificate course in textile technology. But the certificate course was not acceptable to the industry.
In 1993 a three-year Diploma course was introduced under Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) which was treated as a milestone for the textile education. The duration of this course was extended to four years in 2001.
To meet the challenge of increasing demand of new sophisticated and latest technology, the government decided to upgrade the institute to B.Sc. In textile engineering, the college was upgraded in 2007 to offer B.Sc. in textile engineering course affiliated by the University of Chittagong.

Specialization: The college offers four-year B.Sc. in Textile Engineering program with specialization in
  1. Yarn Manufacturing Technology.
  2. Fabric Manufacturing Technology.
  3. Wet Processing Technology.
  4. Apparel Manufacturing Technology.
  5. Fashion & Design Technology.
 General Admission Procedure and Entry Requirements:
 Admission to the Begumgonj Textile Engineering College is competitive and needs a high academic attainment in S.S.C and H.S.C level. Selection of the student for admission is made through admission test of 200 marks. Students get a chance to take admission according to merit.
The entry requirements for admission test are:
  • Applicant must be permanent citizen of Bangladesh.
  • Applicant must be from science background having minimum GPA 4.0(without fourth subject) in SSC or equivalent and minimum GPA 4.0 (without fourth subject) in HSC or equivalent exam. Applicant must have average GP 4.5 and individually GP 3.5 in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at HSC or equivalent level.
  • GEC holder applicant must have average B grade in 5 subjects in O-Level and secure average B-grade in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the A-Level but D grade is not accepted.
  • Are not applicable for previous year students
  • Some seats are reserved for the freedom fighter and tribal communities.

Geography of Begumganj Thana: Begumganj is a so nice Thana/Upazila of Noakhali District. Begumganj is located at 22.9500°N 91.1000°E . It has 118361 units of house hold and total area 426.05 km².
Demographics of Begumganj Thana: As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Begumganj has a population of 676168. Males constitute are 49.2% of the population, and females 50.8%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 313911. Begumganj has an average literacy rate of 44.4% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.
Administrative Of Begumganj Thana: Begumganj thana was establisted in 1977 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. Begumganj has 29 Unions/Wards, 344 Mauzas/Mahallas, and 343 villages.

Location of Noakhali town

Noakhali Town(Sadar Upazila) Known as Maijdi which consists 09 Wards and 36 Mohollas. The Total area of Noakhali Town is 12.61 sq KM. The total population of the Town is 74,585, in which 51.50% is male and 48.50% is female. The population density of Noakhali town per sq KM is 5915. Literacy rate in the town people is 60.7%. The former name of the city was Sudharam. In 1984 when the Upazila HQ were extinct by the erosion of Meghna River, It was shifted 8 KM to the North to its present place at maijdi. The Town has Five Dakbunglows.

Geographical Location and History of Noakhali District

Geography - Noakhali District is located in Chittagong Division, Bangladesh. It has a land area of 3600.99 km2 and is bounded by the comilla District in North, The Meghna estuary and Bay of Bengal in the Soutn, feni and Chittagong District in the East, Lakshmipur and Bhola districk in the west. The District`s annual average temperature ranges from maximum of 34.3 °C to a minimum of 14.4 °C. Its annual rainfall is 3302 mm. Its main rivers are the Bamni and Meghna.
